2019 Walson Holland Chardonnay
Raised 16 months on the lees in French oak barrels, 50% new oak. Unfined and Unfiltered. 48 Cases Produced.
The 2019 Duvarita Chardonnay is a wine of alluring contrast. On the nose there is a plethora of stone fruits, lemon pith and pineapple. The ample, bright fruit is complimented with crushed seashell, brine and smoked macadamia nuts. The rich yet focused palate is weaved together with integrated oak and an energetic, refreshing acid core.
Acid: 6.2 g/L
Bottled: January 11, 2021
Vineyard: Duvarita Vineyard (west of Santa Rita Hills AVA). Biodynamic.
The 2019 Chardonnay slowly unfurls to reveal scents of fresh-baked apple pie, candied ginger, and peach cobbler with hints of cashews, honeycomb, and mandarin peel. Medium to full-bodied, lively, and with a compelling oiliness to the texture, it delivers loads of apple and spice layers with a honey-nut finish. This comes from the biodynamic Duvarita Vineyard, a marine-influenced site that is very windswept and low-yielding. The wine was barrel fermented, with only 2 barrels made - 1 neutral and 1 new - and aged for 18 months before bottling without filtration.
